As Switzerland’s first graphic arts company to install Muller Martini’s Ventura MC book sewing machine with the TWEEN^MC option, M+S Reliure SA can now offer its discerning luxury goods customers entirely new product configurations. The innovative company processes its roughly 1 million brochures a year exclusively using Muller Martini systems, specifically a Prima saddle stitcher, a Bolero perfect binder for softcover, and two Ventura MC machines with the TWEEN^MC option.

M+S Reliure produces high-quality catalogs and corporate brochures for the watch industry, banks and cultural organizations, frequently finished with hot foil embossing and die cutting. “We’ve seen a big change in our customers’ attitudes in recent years,” says David Lude, Director of M+S Reliure, which focuses solely on print finishing. “Today, they have much higher expectations of printers and bookbinderies. They’re consistently looking out for new ideas and even more attractive and more interesting means of advertising so that they can stand out from the competition. Sizes, for instance, are increasingly extreme – either as large as 12 x 17” or as small as 4 x 8”. In short, our customers always want something special, while keeping an eye on price.”

Using the TWEEN^MC option, M+S Reliure can now also sew smaller folded signatures directly in a book block, providing customers even more diverse options for shorter signatures within the sewn book block. The ASIR3 automatic signature image recognition ensures the correct sequence of signatures of M+S Reliure’s thread-sewn products, which average 6,000 to 7,000 copies. What’s more, the Ventura MC machines provide much higher productivity, quality and user-friendliness than the two book sewing machines they replaced.

This latest investment by M+S Reliure, which was necessary for capacity reasons, was realized following in-depth consultative talks with Muller Martini (Lude describes Muller’s project management team as “truly exemplary”) and a demo of the Ventura MC at the Muller Martini Hardcover Forum.
