CHICAGO, Sept. 8, 2013 — HP today at PRINT 13 announced continued adoption of its industry-leading digital printing portfolio, highlighting customer installations and new digital solutions that help general commercial printers increase efficiency and profitability.

The analog printing market  is projected to grow by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of just 1.2 percent through 2016,(1) challenging print service providers (PSPs) to identify ways to grow business with existing customers and to reach new audiences. With HP Digital Presses growing at double-digit percent CAGR, (2) HP delivers this path to growth, helping PSPs expand their businesses with a broader range of applications and faster turnaround times.

“Changing commercial printing business conditions are forcing PSPs to take a hard look at their technology, application offerings and how they create a competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Stephen Nigro, senior vice president, Graphics and Inkjet Solutions Business, HP. “HP’s digital solutions’ portfolio is the future of the printing industry, fueling a transformation from analog to digital while offering PSPs new avenues to enhance profitability.”

Advancing the industry with HP Indigo Digital Presses

PRINT 13 marks the 20-year anniversary of HP Indigo’s first press launch at IPEX 93. This is a symbolic milestone for HP Indigo, which is now experiencing strong adoption of its fourth generation of presses. The HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press, which will be on display in HP booth 1241, recently was awarded a 2013 InterTechTM Technology Award from Printing Industries of America. As of August 2013, the press has had more than 50 installations in more than 20 countries. Customers that have recently purchased the HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press include:

  • Ontario-based Cober Evolving Solutions, which is taking advantage of the B2 format for a wide range of versioned and personalized marketing materials.
  • Braintree, Mass.-based Superior Bindery, which is creating proposal binders, desk top calendars and various specialty trade print jobs.
  • Tobe Direct, a Bolingbrook, Ill.-based direct marketing firm, which is strengthening its digital offset printing ability and expanding its one-to-one marketing offerings.
  • Boston-based UniGraphic, which is expanding its digital capacity to do high-end commercial print work.

As adoption and use of the press increases, more and more innovative, high-value applications have emerged. Examples include 29-inch photo book applications that achieve new levels of digital printing quality and size.

“With its B2 format, offset quality and productivity, the HP Indigo 10000 is a breakthrough addition to our business,” said Phiroze Havaldar, director, Mazda Imaging Pvt Ltd of India. “We now have a size advantage, enabling us to work comfortably with the larger-than-life size photo books.”

Also at PRINT 13, HP will demonstrate the HP Indigo 7600 and 5600 Digital Presses, including features of the recently announced enhancement packages, such as the new HP SmartStream Production Pro Print Server with Direct2Finish functionality, HP Indigo Print Care 2.0, UV invisible ink for the HP Indigo 7600 and 600 micron support for the HP Indigo 5600. The enhancement packages improve the return on investment of an HP Indigopress and help protect customer investments in the presses as many of the features are backwards compatible.

A new version of HP SmartStream Production Center, a production management system, features an extended dashboard with new widgets for improved production visibility, analysis and error management. At PRINT 13, HP SmartStream Production Center will serve as a central production management solution for showcasing live, end-to-end workflows that utilize the entire HP SmartStream solutions portfolio as well as cloud and in-booth systems from HP SmartStream partners.

HP also will demonstrate the broad range of labels and packaging applications made possible with the HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Press, including in-booth conversion of folding cartons on the Kama DC 58. Additionally, HP Indigo 30000 samples will be available in the HP booth.

Customers invest in additional HP Inkjet Web Presses to grow businesses

Printing nearly 2 billion pages per month at customer sites worldwide—enough to circle the Earth more than 14 times every month—HP Inkjet Web Presses are helping customers transform their businesses. Pages printed on HP Inkjet Web Presses grew high double-digit percent in Q3 2013 versus a year ago, driven by customers like Courier and O’Neil Data Systems, with five and nine presses respectively, as well as Communisis, which has doubled its capacity with recent installations.

“We just doubled our digital printing capacity at our plant in Kendallville, Ind., through the addition of a second HP T410 Color Inkjet Web Press, which complements our digital capabilities in our North Chelmsford, Mass., facility,” said James F. Conway III, chairman and chief executive officer, Courier Corporation. “Between our rising volume of customized textbook production and growing interest from trade publishers, it quickly became apparent that we needed even more capacity. And with our second HP T410, we will have it.”

Also at PRINT 13, HP introduced a new service offering for HP Inkjet Web Press customers. Expected to be available in early 2014, HP Mission Critical Services combine proactive and foundational services tailored for specific business needs. These services are designed to help improve print operations and business productivity.

HP Inkjet Web Press applications will be on display in the HP booth and featured in Café con Case Study in the Printerverse, booth 5440, on Sept. 10 from 3 to 4 p.m. During the event, HP will celebrate customers taking advantage of the HP Inkjet Web Press’ versatility, print quality and economics to thrive in a changing market.
