TOKYO, December 9, 2014 – To contribute to the prevention of global warming, Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. and Seven-Eleven Japan Co., Ltd. started carbon offset, compensating the CO₂ emitted through the power and paper consumption in usage of Fuji Xerox’s multi-use copiers^Note1 at Seven-Eleven stores across Japan, for one year from December 8. Carbon offset with multi-use copiers installed in convenience stores will be the first in the convenience store industry.

In this initiative, the amount of power consumed and papers printed by customers using the multi-use copiers-to copy and print documents or photos-at approximately 17,000 Seven-Eleven stores are converted as CO₂ emissions to compensate for their environmental impact. According to an estimate based on past data, an average CO₂ disposed from a single usage equals to a daily CO₂ absorption of four cedar trees, therefore an annual activity will lead to approximately 22,000 tons of carbon offset, equivalent to an annual CO₂ absorption of 1.52 million cedar trees.

Based on the carbon offset system of Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, this initiative has been given a third-party certificate (# CO2-0138). The emission credit used for the carbon offset will be aided to support projects to restrain global warming in the developing countries.

Seven-Eleven stores across Japan tackle various energy saving initiatives, such as adoption of light-emitting diode (LED) lightings, energy-saving air-conditioning systems, a circulation type ventilation system, and solar power generation panels on rooftop to maximize the use of natural energy.

Following the Company’s unique Integrated Recycling System, resources such as parts and materials are effectively reused in Fuji Xerox’s multi-use copier. They also reduce power consumption when not in use by employing low power mode, giving consideration to the environment.

This multi-use copier will be on display at Eco-Products 2014 held at Tokyo Big Site from December 11, 2014. Fuji Xerox and Seven-Eleven Japan will continue to actively help reduce environmental load through their products and services.
