Düsseldorf, Germany. 05 June 2016. The International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press, and Postpress Organization (CIP4), a not-for-profit standards association fostering the adoption of process automation in the printing industry, is pleased to announce an important special event taking place on June 7th at drupa 2016, the world’s largest printing trade show, being held in Düsseldorf, Germany. CIP4 has been working on XJDF, a simplified JDF standard that will be unveiled at the show.

“The original versions of the Job Description Format (JDF) specification were based on the idea of a complete electronic job ticket,” explains Dr. Rainer Prosi, Chief Technical Officer of CIP4. “XJDF, on the other hand, or JDF 2.0, assumes that the job ticket exists only as an internal representation within a management application such as a print MIS solution or production control system. It describes the interface between management applications and applications that execute instructions. In other words, XJDF is designed to be a pure information interchange interface. This leads to a significant reduction of complexity compared with the original JDF design. It leads to faster, simpler and more robust integration of devices and applications within the graphic arts.”

Attendees at drupa 2016 will have an exclusive opportunity to learn more about XJDF from the experts at 18h00 on 7th June at the drupa Innovation Park stage. “If you are at drupa and interested in process automation,” adds Henny van Esch, Chief Executive Officer of CIP4, “this educational event and open discussion forum will be a great use of your time. We’ll be providing detailed information about the specification as well as making the draft specification available to interested parties. In addition, it is a terrific opportunity to ask questions of the experts about XJDF, JDF or any other issues relating to the work of CIP4.”

CIP4 is also represented in the drupa Innovation Parc (dip!) at the show and can be found on Stand 70D23 in the optimization and automation section.
