The Vareo efficiently processes medium runs down to books of one with the highest quality of any perfect binder in its class

Muller Martini’s all-new perfect binder, the Vareo, recently made its world debut at Hunkeler Innovationdays in Lucerne, Switzerland. This highly versatile machine processes medium runs, short-runs or runs of one with the highest quality, regardless of whether products are produced using offset or digital printing.

As print runs become smaller and smaller, the Vareo is a much-needed solution to today’s evolving production demands. It has an excellent price-performance ratio and is the ideal machine for binderies and printers that need to improve the efficiency and versatility of their perfect binding operations. With speeds up to 1,350 cycles per hour and with extremely short set-up times, the Vareo produces a full range of products, such as photo books, personalized catalogs, high-quality brochures, etc., cost-effectively and with the very first book being sellable.

In addition, Muller Martini’s Vareo is the first perfect binder where each of the three clamps is equipped with its own servo motor, so they function independently of one another. That means that each processing station can be individually adjusted to each product to ensure optimal quality and the highest productivity. For instance, books constructed of different materials can spend the appropriate amount of time in the nipping/pressing station without impacting overall production speeds.

Other advantages of this perfect binder include:

Automatic Book Block Feeder. The optional automated book block infeed with integrated book measuring and barcode scanning allows for offline, near-line or in-line book production. This provides any size printing operation the flexibility to configure their workflow to meet their labor and productivity requirements.
Barcode recognition. The Vareo can be equipped with an integrated barcode recognition system to ensure that the content and cover match, guaranteeing the integrity of the end product.
Wide format range. The Vareo’s impressive format versatility allows for the processing of a broad range of products (e.g.: book thickness from 1/16” up to 2.36”).
Exchangeable glue application systems. Standard options for the gluing systems include an EVA hotmelt roller glue pot, a PUR roller pot or a PUR nozzle system. If switching between different adhesives is required, there is an option to mount the glue systems on a trolley, so that they can be quickly and easily exchanged during production.
Optional crash feeder. A gauzing station can be integrated for the production of layflat books or book blocks for hardcover production.
Ease of operation. An intuitive set-up wizard leads the machine operator step by step through the process of creating a new job.

In addition, like many machines in the Muller family, the Vareo features a modular design, allowing it to be easily extended and adapted to meet future production requirements, thereby providing a high degree of investment protection.

Recently, visitors to Muller’s booth at Hunkeler Innovationdays had the unique opportunity to see the Vareo perform live for the first time. Their reaction was enthusiastic. Commented Gottfried Leuenberger, Head of Finishing at the printing and media company W. Gassmann AG in Switzerland, “Such solutions are needed because the runs are becoming ever smaller. I particularly noticed the outstanding quality of the end products.”
