Description

As part of Google’s security enhancements, in 2024, third-party applications will change how they access files in Google Drive.

• Third-party applications must set up the files and folders that users access in Google Drive.
• If you use an unsupported third-party application, the Unverified app warning screen will appear.

Impact

Kyocera Cloud Print and Scan (KCPS) product is affected by this change in Google Drive policy.

A notification screen may appear when linking KCPS account with your Google Drive account.

Workaround

If the notification screen appears when configuring a user for Google Drive integration with KCPS, perform the following steps:

1. On the KCPS storage settings screen, click the “Link” button in the “Google Drive” box and enter the Google Account info.
2. Click “Advanced.”
3. Click “Go to kyocera.biz (unsafe).”

• The connection between your KCPS account and your Google account is completed.

Solution

Kyocera is in the process of attaining the Google Verified Application status for KCPS. The target date for completion and release is April 2024.

Following the December 2023 update for the CVE-2023-50196 vulnerability in Kyocera Device Manager, a new challenge has emerged concerning Kyocera Cloud Print and Scan (KCPS) and its integration with Google Drive.

In December, the focus was on a Path Traversal vulnerability, which risked authentication information leakage, potentially allowing unauthorized access to client accounts and data. Kyocera’s response was an update that would validate and ignore invalid paths, ensuring the security integrity of the device manager.

One month later and Kyocera security concerns now shift to KCPS and how it interacts with Google Drive. Due to Google’s recent security enhancements, third-party apps, including KCPS, will have a different method for accessing files in Google Drive. Kyocera is working to attain Google Verified Application status for KCPS, targeting completion by April 2024.

If a customer ignores this update, there could be implications for the security of their device and data, especially regarding how KCPS integrates with Google Drive.
