OK, so maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement.

The reality is, there are tons of ways to save money and be environmentally responsible in the copier world. I’m sure everyone reading this has a bin for recycling paper in their office (probably next to the copier.) Toner cartridges can not only be recycled, but reused via remanufacturing.

Remanufactured cartridges cost substantially less than brand new ones.  In addition there are several environmental benefits to using remanufactured cartridges:

  • Conservation of raw materials such as petroleum, timber, and water
  • Reduced air and water pollution associated with manufacturing
  • Decreased landfill utilization
  • Reduced energy use.

Over 1,000,000 cartridges are disposed of everyday, and only about 50% are recycled or remanufactured. That’s a lot of room to grow!

While remanufactured cartridges have been in use for some time, I know some folks still have concerns about quality. One of our engineers told me, “Media Sciences incorporates stringent quality control checkpoints into all phases of the toner cartridge remanufacturing process, from its STMC-certified research and development lab to the ISO-9002 certified production facilities where the cartridges are remanufactured. This ensures consistent, reliable performance.” This is geek-talk for “you can rest assured that you’re getting a great product at a great price while doing your part to make the planet a cleaner place.”
