By Andy Slawetsky – Czech Software company MyQ held their annual Showtime event in Prague Sept. 22 – 23.

This year was the company’s 30th anniversary with nearly 300 attendees coming from over 40 countries. It was the largest Showtime event yet.

Partners from all over the world, including John Eckstrom of Carolina Business Equipment attended a series of workshops on topics such as security, print management reporting and future road maps.

All three sessions were interesting, particularly the one with the hired hacker that MyQ contracts with to find weaknesses in their software so they can address issues before they become problems.

After the workshop seminars, attendees relocated to a movie theatre near Old Town for the next part of the event.

This was the beginning of the celebration, including presentations about MyQ’s humble beginnings 30-years ago when four friends from school started their company

Takuya Marubayashi, president of Kyocera Europe had a role in the festivities when MyQ’s Martin Janus brought him and some dealers from Iceland up to chat about their success during the afternoon program.

Other brands represented at the event included Canon, Epson, Sharp, Toshiba, HP, Lexmark, and Ricoh. Please forgive me if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Martin Janus, Radek Tetik, Jakub Ahmadyer and Petr Hacmac began in 1992 and have not looked back, building what was once a small print management solution into one of the more popular options available today.

After reminiscing about their beginnings, Radek provided an update on MyQ X.

Later in the presentation, marketing took the stage and presented some proof that MyQ is making progress, showcasing recognition from Keypoint Intelligence as well as some impressive download numbers from several leading software websites.

As the show came to a close, Martin brought the different groups of coders up on stage to recognize everyone for their efforts. What began as a company of four is now well over 100 employees with offices all over the world.

From there we walked through scenic Prague to the waterfront where the celebration portion of the event really began.

A river cruise through the city allowed for a great night of mingling and socializing with people from all over.

After dinner MyQ began the entertainment with dancers, light shows and an aquatic jet-man flying around the boat. Wild stuff.

A few hours later we were whisked away to a nightclub for the afterparty where many in the group kept the party going until late into the night.MyQ has been carving out their niche for several years. They have grown in terms of revenue, downloads, customers and nearly every metric you can look at and they’re just starting to crack the US market where they have now set their focus.

Strengths of the product include powerful print management and scanning software and strong reporting, particularly with respect to environmental data (trees saved, CO2 usage, etc.).
