Last month, Microsoft released Office for iPad. Although not totally unexpected, it was a significant move. Releasing their prized jewel on a competitor’s platform underscored the demand for serious productivity applications on Apple’s little tablet that could. Microsoft nearly hit a grand slam in that initial release. The apps were elegantly designed, touch friendly and received plaudits from tech pundits all across the web. What did Microsoft miss? Well, twelve million users later, the number one most requested feature was printing. To its credit, Microsoft listened.
Last week, Office for iOS received an update that added AirPrint printing functionality. If there was any doubt that the iPad has invaded the Enterprise, it has now been put to rest. In our way of looking at the world, the tablet is the new desktop. With a printing enabled Office for iPad and Enterprise enabled Presto, the “new desktop” is finally hitting its stride.
