Mobile is transforming the world – is your organization prepared?

In 2014, sales of smartphones totaled 1.2 billion units and represented two-thirds of all global mobile phone sales, according to Gartner. It is projected that 90 percent of the world’s population will have a mobile device by 2020.

Every day, we perform what used to be computer- or paper-based tasks on our smartphones. You may not even notice if you leave your wallet at home because you can pay for your coffee and lunch from your mobile device. Mobility makes our lives easier and can make our jobs easier as well.

To take full advantage of this mobility, organizations must empower users to work more effectively from their mobile devices – to quickly and securely capture, move, process and access valuable information between the right people and processes from wherever they are.

The first step is providing your staff with the ability to capture information from their mobile device, in the moment, and securely get that information where it needs to go.

“Mobile capture is the fastest form of capture in the market. It enables users to acquire content at the point of contact, and then get that content into the business process faster than ever before,” said Jud Milham, a Mobile Product Manager at Lexmark with more than 18 years of experience in the mobile space.

In the 2014 AIIM study ‘Paper Wars,’ a full two-thirds of respondents recognized the importance of mobile devices for content access and data capture. The top two benefits of mobile capture were speed of data availability and reduced logistics of forms and paper handling.

Of course, there are many more reasons why your organization needs to invest in a mobile capture strategy. Here are five of them:

Improve responsiveness: Advance customer service by collecting information on your mobile device and processing information more quickly.

Increase efficiency: Electronically submitted information eliminates the need for staff to manually enter data, simplifying tasks and enhancing productivity.

Increase convenience and ease of use: The ability to collect information wherever they are makes workers more effective.

Engage remote workers: Remote and out-of-pocket employees can quickly submit information to your enterprise applications with a mobile device.

Enhance quality and compliance: Avoid mistakes that arise from manual data entry and lost documents while gaining the ability to effectively track and report on information.

It’s time to capitalize on the opportunity mobile provides. “We are addicted to mobile. The world population is 7.19 billion, and the number of mobile devices exceeds 7.2 billion. If you don’t have a mobile strategy, you are falling behind your competition,” Milham said.

By aligning the right technology, processes and resources, your organization can improve responsiveness to customers, increase efficiency and engage your knowledge workers – all while enhancing quality and compliance. All you need is a vendor with a robust mobile capture strategy.

Lexmark has expanded its mobile capture offering into a mobile capture solution design kit (SDK) that gives customers the flexibility to access the Lexmark mobile capture app, or to utilize its SDK tools to either enhance their already existing mobile app or build one from scratch.

“The near-term evolution of mobile capture will bring automation of image acquisition and image processing, the ability to acquire video and finally, more client-side engines to improve their performance,” Milham said. “We are working to be on the forefront of this mobile revolution.”

The world is embracing mobile. Lexmark is embracing mobile. Are you?
