By  – 3D printer makers Stratasys (SSYS) and 3D Systems (DDD) were downgraded by Piper Jaffray following channel checks that revealed a “significant slowdown” in product demand in the second quarter.

Piper Jaffray analyst Troy Jensen also expects shipments by Stratasys and 3D Systems will fall below expectations in the second half of 2016.

He attributed the 3D printer slowdown partly to the entry of HP Inc. (HPQ), formerly Hewlett-Packard before its split, into the 3D printer market two months ago. HP introduced two 3D printers, with partners that include Nike (NKE), Autodesk (ADSK) and Proto Labs (PRLB).
