HP has announcement more layoffs this time a big number coming just before their split. Here’s an article posted on wsj.com

Hewlett-Packard Co. outlined plans to cut another 25,000 to 30,000 workers as it prepares to split into two separate businesses, but the company signaled it was finally nearing the end of a brutal period of layoffs.

The Palo Alto, Calif., company’s latest staff reductions are part of a plan to cut $2.7 billion in annual costs and prepare its offspring to better compete in a world that has moved past the big computers and PC networks that fed its growth last decade. “It has been a bumpy road. There’s no question about it,” Chief Executive Meg Whitman said during a meeting on Tuesday with financial analysts. But she added that the “final actions will eliminate the need for any future corporate restructuring.”
