Large Format Division repositions its Océ ColorWave 500 Device

MELVILLE, N.Y., February 23, 2016 – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., recently expanded its strategy of making mid-volume production color accessible to a much broader segment of the large format printing market with a new approach to promoting its award-winning Océ ColorWave 500® device. The strategy enables architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) firms who in the past may have considered printing large format color construction documents to be too expensive, access to a print device that is within their budget from both an acquisition and operational cost perspective.

As the trend of decentralized printing has continued to expand, so too has the need to print more construction documents in color. In the past color was primarily available at the very low end of the market, consisting of affordable printers that were often lacking in speed, ability to process large files, and print on more than just a few types of media. Canon addressed the needs of this untapped market by repositioning the price of its Océ ColorWave 500 printer, emphasizing its ability to provide instant-dry prints ready for immediate use, and flexible media choices including bond, film, waterfast Tyvek, polypropylene and recycled paper without sacrificing quality or productivity. The printing system is ideal for both small workgroups looking for a cost-effective walk-up system as well as for central operations needing high productivity for generating CAD, GIS, and color graphics applications. With the ability to produce up to 225 A1/D-size black & white or color prints-per-hour, the Océ ColorWave 500 large format printing system is designed to be the most productive walk-up on the market. Now, 12 months removed from its launch, Canon Solutions America’s Large Format Solutions division is reimagining the potential of the product by tapping into new market opportunities.

Canon Helps Grocery Store Improve Marketing

“The repositioning of the Océ ColorWave 500 multifunction system has opened up access for this printer to a whole new market segment, which in the past would not have considered printing large format documents in color,” said John Wirtz, president, Document Solutions, Inc. “This move simultaneously creates valuable opportunities for Document Solutions as a Canon Solutions America Platinum Reseller.”

The timing of the repositioning comes at a pivotal point in various industries, perhaps none more than the construction market and the emergence of research on the value of color in construction documents. Research has quantified the benefits of using color documents to reduce construction costs where each incremental dollar invested in color printing can yield $4 in savings for a given project. Key areas where color has the greatest impact include reduction of estimation contingency costs, change orders, and requests for information (RFIs). To capitalize on this opportunity, Canon Solutions America has worked with its resellers and customers to leverage the power of color and showcase the ability of the Océ ColorWave 500 to help enhance the document workflows of architects, contractors and sub-contractors.

“Now, with an extremely price competitive mid-volume device that has both monochrome and color print, scan, and copy capabilities, our customers will be able to take advantage of the productivity and cost savings associated with printing large format color documents,” added Wirtz. “In addition the Océ ColorWave 500 system has a very wide range of media options, so multiple departments such as the design and marketing teams can fully utilize the device. Plus, compared to other models, this system is ideal for decentralized office environments because of its compact foot print, very low ozone emissions, and low noise and heat emissions.”
