Canon Earns Product Brand Owner Award for Promoting Energy Efficiency, Environmental Initiatives

MELVILLE, N.Y., March 28, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that it has received the 2016 ENERGY STAR “Partner of the Year – Product Brand Owner Award” from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing energy-efficient products. Canon’s accomplishments relating to ENERGY STAR will be celebrated at a special event held in Washington D.C. on April 13, 2016. This is the second time that Canon has received the “Partner of the Year – Product Brand Owner Award,” having previously earned the distinction in 2010. Altogether, Canon has been recognized nine times by the EPA since 1996, also earning “Excellence Awards” for “ENERGY STAR Promotion” (2011) and Product Labeling (1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2008).

“Canon takes great pride in our partnership with ENERGY STAR and is incredibly honored to have received this significant distinction,” said Seymour Liebman, executive vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel, Canon U.S.A. “Our company is one that is truly environmentally conscious, as well as one that celebrates energy efficiency in our products. We give a great deal of consideration to how our decisions will impact our environment and the world that we inhabit.”

An ENERGY STAR partner for more than 20 years, Canon has more than 200 ENERGY STAR certified products that incorporate advanced energy-efficient technologies, without compromising features or performance, such as energy saver mode, automatic duplex settings and low sleep mode power consumption. In 2015, 100 percent of the products released in Canon’s five main product categories eligible for the program were ENERGY STAR certified. Among Canon’s ENERGY STAR certified products are the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8500/6500 Series Multifunction Systems (MFPs) models. 1 With features to help reduce waste, technology designed to provide low energy consumption, which can help limit emissions, and the use of bio-based plastics2 in select parts, the third generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series is designed to help support customers’ environmental sustainability goals.

“Canon’s ENERGY STAR certified products are helping Americans save money, save energy and do their part to reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “Canon’s efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.”

Canon continues to be dedicated to its philosophy of Kyosei, displaying an on-going commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
