By Industry Analysts Inc. – Sharp Electronics announced in early March that they would convert a factory in Japan to begin producing personal masks to help protect people from the COVID-19 virus.

Last week, Sharp began selling these masks directly to consumers.  The masks were in such high demand that they crashed the order-taking website.

Sharp has now adopted a lottery process for distributing these masks until they get caught up with production.

~ Change to lottery sale ~

When we started selling masks for individual customers on Tuesday, April 21, we were unable to purchase masks due to the concentration of access that greatly exceeded our expectations. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers.

We decided to change the sales method to a lottery method to ease access concentration. Thank you for your understanding.

About the first lottery sale

  • Application period: April 27, 2020 (Mon) 0:00 to 23:59
    (The probability of winning is the same no matter which application you apply during the period)
  • Lottery date: Tuesday, April 28
  • Sales quantity: 30,000 boxes (50 pieces / 1 box per person)
  • Price: 2,980 yen / box (excluding tax and shipping)
