By Andy Slawetsky – OpenText held their first OpenText World event in several years in Las Vegas, NV October 2 – 6.

Billed as the “ultimate information management” conference, The Great Reunion lived up to its hype and did not disappoint.

The program began Tuesday morning with a Keynote delivered by CEO and CTO Mark Barrenchea and included panel discussions and a presentation from guest keynote Alex Honnold.

A one-on-one conference with Mark followed and we chatted extensively about OpenText’s push downstream to SMB as well as their new offerings announced during the conference.

Traditionally focused on the Enterprise, OpenText has more-recently targeted SMB, leading to acquisitions such as the $860 purchase of Zix in Nov. 2021.

Other acquisitions have drawn the attention of office equipment resellers as OpenText acquired XM Fax in 2020, a player in fax software and a natural fit with the OpenText fax portfolio.

COVID-19 forced OpenText to cancel and modify this conference for the last few years, but it was back in force with over 1,000 attendees there in person and another 10,000 dropping in throughout the week online.

This show had a considerable number of breakout sessions or, tracks where attendees could learn about the new products, programs and announcements coming in a large number of areas, nearly all of which were focused on the Cloud.

The sessions varied in style as some were keynotes, hands-on labs, workshops, discussions and more. It was very interactive.

OpenText spent a decent amount of time discussing their partnerships with companies like Micrsoft and Google.

Indeed the second day had a discussion between OpenText and Google execs during the morning Keynote where the two chatted about the unique partnership they’ve established and where it’s going.

OpenText is a significant player in information management and this conference served as an opportunity for them to remind us all of that.

Heavy investments in Cloud technology, security, partnerships with other industry leaders and the move towards SMB has kept OpenText on the forefront of the software vendors in this space.
