LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Sept. 20, 2022 – Epson today announced updated software is now available for its Kitchen Display System (KDS) Controller. The new update allows the easy-to-use controller to digitize, route and display order information without the need to connect to a printer. Ideal for quick-service restaurant (QSR) and small-restaurant environments, the compact, fully configurable KDS Controller fits in small spaces and can be customized – on its own or paired with an Epson receipt or label printer – to support a kitchen’s workflow.

“KDS systems continue to be adopted to digitally manage food prep in order to route and track a kitchen’s activities, helping to increase kitchen productivity and efficiency,” said Alan Chen, product manager, Epson America, Inc. “This updated software provides great value to end-users in allowing them to tap into the power of the KDS Controller without needing to connect to a printer. Restaurants can also set up as many as nine stations throughout a kitchen to ensure order information is handled by the right station at virtually any time.”

The Epson KDS Controller is POS agnostic and compatible with traditional and tablet POS systems, allowing for easy installation. It supports multiple display devices to meet staff’s preferences, including touchscreens from Elo and MicroTouch® and bump bars from Logic Controls®. Engineered for reliability, the controller connects to local networks but does not require an Internet connection and can be integrated with an Epson POS printer to optimize workflow or in the event of a display malfunction.

The KDS Controller uses an intuitive Windows®-based configuration utility with simple graphical interface. And allowing restaurants to digitize food orders means no paper is needed, helping to minimize paper usage. Epson has also updated the warranty for the KDS Controller. It comes with a one-year limited warranty, with options to purchase Epson Preferred℠ Plus Extended Service Plans for up to five years total coverage, including upgrades to Spare-in-the-Air (SITA).
