2021 IDG research study found that cloud security is among the biggest IT challenges that healthcare organizations are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the study, the increased demand for network resiliency and cloud security stems from the uptick in virtual doctor visits, pop-up clinics, and new work-from-home requirements. Ninety-five percent of respondents reported an increase in network traffic since March 2020 and ninety-two percent of respondents reported increasing network bandwidth capacity to accommodate an influx of connected medical devices.

Although the pandemic has put a strain on network bandwidth and increased network vulnerabilities, the shift has also led to a collective approach for both reliability and security across healthcare organizations. In the study, seventy-one percent of respondents considered it highly important to integrate network solutions with security policies while sixty percent of respondents indicated that having a single security architecture delivering consistent security policies across multiple locations is highly important.
