Mike Marusic, President and CEO of Sharp Electronics, sat down with Andy Slawetsky on the What’s Happenin’ Technology Podcast to talk about the state of the industry—and he didn’t hold back. Office equipment resellers tuning in will want to hear what Mike had to say on some of the biggest topics impacting their businesses today.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Tariffs and Pricing Adjustments:
Sharp will raise hardware pricing starting June 1 due to tariffs but will not increase prices on aftermarket supplies or parts anytime soon. Marusic noted this decision is aimed at protecting dealer profitability while absorbing costs internally.
  • Transparency Pays Off:
Marusic emphasized the importance of open communication, especially during uncertain periods. He recalled how being transparent with dealers during COVID—right down to product availability spreadsheets—helped Sharp and its partners avoid bigger problems.
  • Strong Performance from the Document Business:
While Sharp’s overall numbers showed a 7% decline due to divestments, the Document Systems Group was up 17% year-over-year with a 43% increase in profit. That’s a solid rebound and a good sign for the print side of the business.
  • Opportunities in Dynabook and Displays:
With Windows 10 support ending, Sharp sees a major refresh cycle ahead—especially in laptops. Marusic highlighted the MFP channel as the fastest-growing area for both Dynabook and display products, presenting a real opportunity for resellers.

Marusic is heading to Japan next to finalize strategy updates, and Sharp’s dealer event in October will reveal where the brand is headed next. For those selling Sharp or considering it, this conversation is well worth your time.
