HPM doubles EPM’s effective productivity increase from 8% to 16%

The highest quality, fastest, CMY color reproduction achievable on the HP Indigo

Reliable, simple color automation is specific to the Indigo’s real-time color profile

Lyon, France – May 12, 2025 – Exhibiting sponsor Rods and Cones will feature new Alwan HPM technology at Dscoop Edge, the HP Indigo user conference taking place in Long Beach, California May 14-17. HPM maximizes the HP Indigo’s built-in EPM (Enhanced Productivity Mode) option by providing the highest quality, fastest, CMY color reproduction attainable on the Indigo. Importantly, the effective productivity increase using HPM is 16% — double the increase achieved using any other EPM solution, or EPM alone. HPM is available with Alwan ColorHub Server.

“Alwan’s HPM generates CMY matches to CMYK and brand colors with astounding accuracy and exquisite results, all while saving time,” says Jason Tempestini, managing partner, Rods and Cones. “Some of our Indigo customers are locking into regular EPM production because of HPM. It’s a gamechanger.”

The ideal companion to the Indigo’s EPM option, HPM checks every incoming PDF file to ensure it will print successfully in CMY mode. Those that pass are optimized for CMY printing; those that don’t are optimized for CMYK.

Alwan’s HPM technology is powered by the color management developer’s patented and award-winning core technologies, Dynamic DeviceLinks and Hydra. With Hydra inside, operators can automatically preflight, sort files, and print more jobs in CMY with the most accurate and up-to-date DeviceLink profiles specific to their HP Indigo at the time of processing.

HPM Doubles EPM’s Productivity Increase to 16%

The EPM option allows the HP Indigo to print CMY without K, which HP says can increase productivity by 33%. Interviewed printers using EPM agree that the average number of files that can be printed in CMY is about 25% of printed jobs, because there are always some files that cannot be printed in CMY. Therefore, the effective productivity increase overall is 25% of 33%, which is 8%.

However, by using its exclusive core color technologies and every specific HP Indigo’s color profile at the moment of processing, HPM is able to double the number of “EPMed” files, increasing effective productivity to 16%.

Return on Investment

HP Indigo with EPM – 8% effective productivity increase

If an HP Indigo is producing $1,000,000 in revenue per month, using the press’ EPM option would return an additional $80,000 in revenue per month.

HP Indigo with EPM and HPM – 16% effective productivity increase

If an Indigo is producing $1,000,000 in revenue per month, using the press’ EPM option with HPM would return an additional $160,000 in revenue per month. The printer would therefore pay for HPM, which is available in Alwan’s ColorHub server for color-managed automation, in the first 5 days of use.

Elie Khoury, president of Alwan; and Jason Tempestini of Rods and Cones will be available during Dscoop Edge to meet with HP Indigo users who are interested in HPM and other Alwan solutions. Interested parties should inquire with Rods and Cones, at (510) 255-5035 or info@rodsandcones.com.
