DevPack New Features: What to Look for in DevPack 4.90
With each reader firmware update, DevPack continues to enhance RFID reader management. Version 4.90 introduces several new features to improve RFID reader configuration, firmware updates and OSDP support. Here’s what’s new.
OSDP Support for Config and Upgrade Cards
DevPack 4.90 now includes enhanced OSDP support, allowing users to configure and upgrade RFID readers more efficiently. OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol) is a communication standard developed by the Security Industry Association (SIA) for secure, bidirectional communication between access control systems and peripheral devices, such as RFID readers. OSDP enables secure two-way data exchange, allowing for real-time status monitoring, diagnostics and remote RFID reader configuration. With OSDP support for config and upgrade cards, DevPack 4.90 allows RFID readers to be updated, configured and upgraded more efficiently in the field, reducing installation time and maintenance costs.
This feature enables:
- Faster updates to an installed reader base with minimal disruption.
- Seamless upgrades that extend the life and capabilities of existing readers.
- Simplified initial installations, where physical deployment can be completed first, followed by quick and easy final RFID reader configuration using config cards.
Google Smart Tap Support
The latest DevPack 4.90 reader firmware update enhances Google Smart Tap compatibility, specifically adding support for certified solutions. It allows developers to deploy more secure and persistent mobile credential solutions. This upgrade expands the possibilities for developers and integrators looking to build mobile credential solutions for loyalty pass applications and other scenarios, offering greater flexibility in RFID-based authentication.
Google Smart Tap is a contactless NFC technology that allows users to store and use digital passes—such as loyalty cards, event tickets and promotional offers—on their mobile devices. This technology enables seamless authentication and access control by simply tapping a smartphone on an RFID-enabled reader. The improved Google Smart Tap support in DevPack 4.90 enables use cases such as loyalty and customer engagement programs. Retailers and service providers can use RFID-enabled kiosks or check-in points to authenticate loyalty members via Google Smart Tap, enabling easy one-tap access to discounts, rewards or special offers.
HID Mobile Access Integration
DevPack 4.90 introduces HID Mobile Access support, opening new possibilities to certified partners for seamless mobile authentication outside of traditional physical access control (PAC) applications. (TWN4 MultiTech 2 with OMNIKEY Secure Element and additional options required.) This enhancement is a significant step forward for businesses and system integrators looking to implement mobile credential solutions such as BLE and NFC within an HID environment. Customers using HID Mobile Access can now extend the solution beyond the front door, for applications such as:
- Workforce Management: Authenticate employee access to IT systems, secure printing applications, time-and-attendance or single sign-on (SSO) systems using HID mobile credentials.
- Fitness Center & Amenity Access: Employees or tenants can use HID Mobile Access credentials to enter on-site gyms, lounges and other shared building amenities without needing physical keycards.
- Conference Room & Shared Workspace Reservations: Employees can use mobile credentials to reserve and unlock meeting rooms, focus pods and shared workspaces.
- Machine & Equipment Access: Companies can implement machine authentication for high-value lab or production equipment, 3D printers or testing stations using mobile credentials tied to user roles.
DevPack 4.90 ensures smooth compatibility and integration with HID’s mobile authentication solutions, making it easier for partners to deploy and manage HID-powered mobile access in a unified access system. This provides a more future-proof and scalable approach to access control and identity verification. Notes:
- Partners must use a certified reader and obtain licensing for this functionality.
- This option is only available on the TWN4 MultiTech 2 with OMNIKEY Secure Element; additional options required.
