By Andy Slawetsky – Ann Arbor-based office equipment reseller UTEC recently hosted its annual NCAA basketball tournament-themed open house, drawing over 400 attendees for a day filled with food, games, and networking. The event, held at UTEC’s offices, featured food stations offering a variety of options, along with beers, cocktails, and plenty of entertainment.

Sharp AQUOS BOARDS were placed throughout the building, broadcasting live NCAA basketball games. Adding to the fun, guests enjoyed activities like a virtual golf room and bar-style basketball games.

The open house was spread across UTEC’s unique office space, which includes putting holes built into the floors, complete with mini golf flags, putters, and balls scattered throughout the building. This setup reflects UTEC’s fun and competitive company culture — and explains president Kevin Van Kannel’s impressive putting skills.

This was the second time we’ve attended this event, and it has clearly grown — this year’s crowd was roughly double in size. Partner companies were well-represented, with attendees from Sharp Electronics, ACDI, DLL, GreatAmerica, and more.

Adding to the excitement, U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell attended the event, where we made sure to capture her sporting one of our What’s Happenin’ hats — a tradition at events like these!

UTEC’s NCAA-themed open house was a terrific mix of business and fun, giving partners and customers a chance to connect in a relaxed, lively environment. Did I mention the food? I’m still full.
